Course Offerings

TGJ2O1 – Grade 10 Communications Technology
This course introduces students to communications technology from a media perspective. Students will work in the areas of TV/video and movie production, radio and audio production, print and graphic communications, photography, and interactive new media and animation. Student projects may include computer-based activities such as creating videos, editing photos, working with audio, cartooning, developing animations, and designing web pages. Students will also develop an awareness of environmental and societal issues related to communications technology and will explore secondary and post-secondary education and training pathways and career opportunities in the various communications technology fields.

TGJ3M1 – Grade 11 Communications Technology
This course examines communications technology from a media perspective. Students will develop knowledge and skills as they design and produce media projects in the areas of live, recorded, and graphic communications. These areas may include TV, video, and movie production; radio and audio production; print and graphic communications; photography; digital imaging; broadcast journalism; and interactive new media. Students will also develop an awareness of related environmental and societal issues, and will explore college and university programs and career opportunities in the various communications technology fields.

TGV4M1 – Grade 12 Communications Technology:  TV, Video and Movie Production
This course examines communications systems, design and production processes focused in the area of TV, video and film. This course examines communications technology from an electronic media perspective. Students will develop knowledge and skills as they design and produce media projects in the areas of live, recorded, and graphic communications. These areas may include TV, video, and movie production; and radio and audio production. Students will also study the industry standards, regulations and health and safety issues, and will explore careers, the importance of lifelong learning, and the impact of communications technology on society and the environment.

Grade 12 – TGP4M1- Grade 12 Communications Technology:  Photography and Digital Imaging (Yearbook)
This course enables students to further develop media knowledge and skills while designing and producing projects in the areas of print and graphic communications by producing the school’s yearbook. Students may work in the areas of print and graphic communications; photography; digital imaging; and interactive new media. Through recording and covering the events and stories that occur in the school, students will expand their awareness of community and societal issues related to communications technology and will investigate career opportunities and challenges in a rapidly changing technological environment. This course places an emphasis on recording and photographing school events, photo editing and photo enhancements. This course can be taken by itself or in combination with TGG4M.

Guidance Message: Students may choose one or both Yearbook courses (with TGP4M1). They will be offered one in each semester.

Grade 12 – TGG4M1- Grade 12 Communications Technology: Print and Graphic Communications (Yearbook)
This course enables students to further develop media knowledge and skills while designing and producing projects in the areas of print and graphic communications by producing the school’s yearbook. Students may work in the areas of print and graphic communications; photography; digital imaging; and interactive new media. Through recording and covering the events and stories that occur in the school, students will expand their awareness of community and societal issues related to communications technology, and will investigate career opportunities and challenges in a rapidly changing technological environment. This course places an emphasis on designing and creating page layouts through the combination of graphic elements and photography. This course can be taken by itself or in combination with TGP4M.
